The Gulf Sporting League announced yesterday (17/JUN/2024) the postponement of the Chausalantique Games. The Atlian Empire and the Auguric Republic of Isturus and the Voiqila, both hosting the games along with the North Sea Empire, have taken the measure given the unfavorable weather forecasts ahead in the first two weeks of the games in both nations.
Recently it was decided to reduce the number of events to just seven, removing two in-person events.
Background
Given the interest in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on the part of the leaders of the main Chausalantique nations, since January 2024 the possibility of creating games analogous to the Olympics, every four years, within the community was devised. The original program of ten events (5 in-person, 5 virtual) was approved on 12/JAN/2024 and reviewed in May 2024 given the uncertainty of some of the participants about being able to meet the competition times, reducing it to seven events (3 in person, 4 virtual) the games.
What is the Gulf Sporting League?
The GSL is the virtual Hockey, Soccer, Lacrosse and Volleyball league for the Chausalantique Community. It is the successor to the Chausalantique Sporting League, founded in 2022. The new league was officially created in February 2023 and started on 12 February, 2023. Its Board of Advisors also organizes the Chausalantique Games.
What events are planned to take place?
In person, it is expected to have runs of 100m, 500m and a 1km walk.
In virtual, the video games chosen for competition were Risk: Global Domination, Civilization V, Boat Navigation and Swimming in Minecraft.
Who will participate?
At the moment, the Kingdom of Aspen, the Atlian Empire, the North Sea Empire, the United Republic of Obscurium and the Francesca Community have mentioned their intention to participate; with a Chausalantique Community team proposed for members of the community without affiliation to one nation or another, although at the moment it does not have registered participants.
When will it be?
The tentative date for the start of the games is next 6 July, as announced by the GSL.
