The micronational community is unique because it is global, well populated, rich with different ideologies, and ideas. We are a network that can reach almost every corner of the world. And, so, we can help anyone we want as long as we can agree to work together. - Lord James of Mithras
Russia's invasion of eastern Ukraine has generated solidarity around the world for the people of Ukraine, and fear of what could happen on a global scale. Nations around the world have expressed their rejection of violence and the return of peace in the region. Naturally, international reactions have been accompanied by intermicronational ones.
Russo-Ukrainian War
On 24/FEB/22, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops in two regions controlled by rebels in eastern Ukraine, after recognizing them as independent states. Russia said the troops have not yet been deployed but will be "peacekeepers" in the regions, which it has supported since 2014.
As of today, the fifth day since the start of the conflict, the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, has come under fire from Russian missiles, but remains in the hands of the government of President Volodymyr Zelensky. As of this Sunday (27/FEB/2022), the number of civilian victims had reached 210, including several children, according to estimates by the Ukrainian human rights commissioner.
Intermicronational response
Since the beginning of the conflict, a wide variety of micronations, as well as their leaders, have expressed their support for the Ukrainian cause.
On the very day of the start of the conflict, Angosvria stands out as a Spanish-speaking micronation that condemned the Russian attack on Ukraine.
A day into the conflict, Adonia found herself making a statement about it.
Flandrensis the next day was a notable nation in condemning the attacks and announcing that 13 Flandresian citizens are in danger from the conflict.
It was not until 27/FEB/2022 that Atlia made a historic announcement by showing its solidarity with Ukraine and asking for justice in the face of the Russian invasion. On the same day, The House of Mithras announced the existence of the Micronational Conference on Plans to Support Ukraine, as its founding member.
To this day, nations such as Sealand, Hrafnafjall, Centumcellae, Vurmond, San Andrés y Bacalao, Woultenland and Molossia; among many others, they have spoken out in favor of Ukraine and the return of peace.
The Micronational Conference on Plans to Support Ukraine
The Micronational Conference of Plans to Support Ukraine (MCPSU) is an intermicronational conference formed by the House of Mithras. So far, the dialogues they've had involve who they can donate to, where they can volunteer, what campaigns they can support, and how to help refugees who come into direct contact with any of the MCPSU members.
CTAVA had the opportunity to approach Lord James of Mithras, Lord Sovereign of the House of Mithras. In the words of Lord James:
This conference is only intended to be temporary. We only plan to last as long as those affected by this crisis remain affected.
After brainstorming and discussing cooperative measures, the MCPSU decided that the first thing they needed to do was write a joint statement to the micronational community.
Today (01/MAR/22), several members of the MCPSU published such statement, with notable members among them, such as the United Republic of Obscurium. The declaration is open for all to adopt. There is a second that does not involve the breaking of diplomatic relations; this was written for micronations that cannot break diplomatic relations due to diplomatic politics.
Lord James goes on to say that now that they have made the statement, they will now explore how they can support the victims of this war. He ends with a comment on the global reach of the micronational community and invites the Kingdom of Atlia to join the Conference.
